Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru is poised to make a comeback to the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.
Reliable sources suggest that Ashimeru is one of the midfielders already submitted by coach Chris Hughton to the Ghana Football Association. The official squad announcement is expected later this week.
This marks a return to the national team for the attacking midfielder, who last represented Ghana in March during a 0-0 draw against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. His recent absence from the squad was due to a muscle injury, but he has now fully recovered.
Hughton holds high expectations for Ashimeru and believes he will be a vital asset in the crucial upcoming matches. The 26-year-old is eager to contribute to Ghana’s games against Madagascar on November 17 and Comoros on November 21.
Ghana’s primary goal is to lead the qualifying group, which also features Mali, to secure a place in the tournament co-hosted by Mexico, the USA, and Canada.
Ghana will host Madagascar on November 17 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi before traveling to Moroni for the match against Comoros.
