With just over a week to the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, many are eager to see Ghana’s group pairing.
The Black Stars, ranked 72nd in the world, head into the Mundial as one of the lowest-ranked nations.
Therefore, they have been placed in Pot 4 alongside debutants Cape Verde, Curacao, other lower-ranked countries, and countries yet to qualify via play-offs.
Pot 1 comprises the three host nations and the nine highest-ranked teams, as per the FIFA Rankings issued on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. The rest of the pots follow in that order.
The draw, scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, will see countries playing against at least one nation from each pot.
This means Ghana are likely to be grouped with some of the toughest opponents.
But what would the ideal group pairings for Ghana look like?
Veteran sports journalist, Michael Oti Adjei, has just revealed his dream World Cup draw for the Black Stars. He believes Ghana stand a better chance of making it to the next round if they are paired with these nations.
Many will prefer not to play against the host nations in any major tournament, but a glance at Pot 1 with the likes of reigning world champions Argentina, Spain, England, Portugal, Brazil, and other giants in there, will leave many wishing otherwise.
Oti reckons that Ghana, being paired with either Canada or the USA, will be the easier fixture.
In Pot 2, he sees Iran as the best option, but wouldn’t mind the Black Stars clashing with Switzerland, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, and Australia. Pot 3 is dominated by African countries, so that narrows Ghana’s possible opponents to only five.
Norway appears to be the most difficult encounter. Oti is optimistic Ghana stand a chance against Scotland, but he sees Panama as the best option in that pot.
“So, in my mind, the ideal draw for Ghana will be Canada, Iran, Panama, and the Black Stars,” he concluded as reported by 3news.com.
