Ghanaian midfielder Elisha Owusu has expressed satisfaction with the quality of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium following the Black Stars’ first training session ahead of their pivotal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.
The Black Stars are set to face Sudan in a doubleheader this month as part of Group F qualifiers. After mixed results in previous matches, including a home loss to Angola and an away draw with Niger, concerns had been raised about the poor state of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch. These concerns led to speculation that the Black Stars might need to change venues for their upcoming home fixture.
However, after a productive training session on Monday, Elisha Owusu commended the playing surface at the Accra Sports Stadium, noting how it could positively impact the team’s performance.
“The pitch was good. I won’t lie to you, the pitch was very good. We had an amazing training today, so we are happy everybody is doing their thing to help us play better football,” Owusu said. He added, “Now it’s on us to put in the performance. We have an amazing staff. They do everything for us to give our best. We are ready mentally, and we are here to win.”
Ghana will host Sudan in the first leg of the doubleheader on Thursday, October 10, with kick-off scheduled for 4 p.m. As the team aims to bounce back from recent setbacks, the improved conditions at the Accra Sports Stadium could be a key factor in helping the Black Stars secure a vital win.
