Tunisia beat Togo 4-1 on Sunday evening during their opening match in the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (CAN).
The game was played at the Complexe Mohammed V in Casablanca. First, Mariem Houij opened the scoring after just 17 seconds of play.
Then Sabrine Ellouzi doubled the lead in the 12th minute for the Tunisians. Feminine Les Eperviers recovered and obtained a converted penalty in the 22nd minute by Odette Gnintegma. The Togolese thus made history as the first player from her country to score a goal in the history of the tournament.
The Aigles de Carthages struggled to protect their lead, but they eventually cracked the Eperviers Dames. Behind, Djankalé Omolatcho Mégam Ella (54th) received a direct red card, being the last defender to act to prevent a counter.
This was followed by the 3rd goal of the Tunisians, obtained thanks to the goal of Ellouzi who scored a double. With the help of an own goal signed by Amouklou Amé (71st), Tunisia finally won the game 4-1.
In their Group B, Tunisia leads with 3 points and with their goalless draw this Sunday evening, Zambia and Cameroon are 2nd and 3rd respectively. Togo is last with 0 points.
