Ahead of the last two match days to complete the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications series SPORTSWorldGhana.com takes a look at qualifying Group A and presents that each teams need in order to qualify for the finals of the tournament.
Mali – 13 points
Mali qualified with 13 points after Chad were disqualified from the competition due interference from Chad’s government and so Mali were rewarded a 3-0 win in advance.
The result of the match between Guinea and Mali is thus not significant for the Malians.
Guinea – 8 points
Guinea play Mali on 24th March 2021. The results has no bearing on Mali as they have qualified already with 13 points meaning Guinea needs these three points the most.
Guinea needs to win this game to qualify with a game to spare.
Namibia – 6 points
Namibia have to hope that Guinea draw or lose at home against Mali on 24th March. If Guinea is beaten by Mali then Namibia will qualify with a win over Guinea on 28th March 2021.
If Guinea draw to Mali. The Namibia can qualify with a 3-0 win over Guinea.
Chad
On 22 March 2021, CAF disqualified Chad due to government interference in football. As a result of this, the two remaining matches involving Chad – home v Namibia and away v Mali, will not be played as scheduled, and are eventually awarded as 3–0 wins for Chad’s opponents (In accordance with the provisions of Articles 61 and 64 of the competition regulations).
